How often should I check for termites

How often should I check for termites?

Termites are extremely small, yet extremely destructive. If not eliminated, they can cause significant damage.

The cost of a termite inspection and termite treatment may seem a little expensive, but if termites or timber pests are left untreated the damage can destroy a house and end up costing much, much more.

So, it is extremely important to have a Precision Pest Controller inspect your property for timber pest and termite activity.

Termite inspections are crucial for the safety of your home. We highly recommend getting your house inspected at least every 12 months. We also recommend getting a termite inspection under these circumstances:

Prior to purchasing a new house

Before you think of buying any property, check that there has never been or is no current termite activity or damage. Get a qualified pest controller from Precision Pest Control to carry out a termite and timber pest inspection. We are trained to find any evidence of termites in the building or on the property. We will give you a document that declares the property is safe from termites or timber pests – or we will report on any current or past termite activity.

Prior to selling your house

To sell your property for the best price possible, you need to ensure your property has no termite activity or damage. Get a qualified pest controller from Precision Pest Control to carry out a termite inspection and we will give you a document that declares your home is safe against timber pests. This will increase the value of your home.

Previous termite activity on your property

If the previous termite infestation was eliminated and there is no termite barrier installed then we highly recommend termite inspections every three to six months. However, if your property has a termite barrier installed then we recommend (depending on your location) termite barrier inspections every six to 12 months.

Annual termite inspection

Australia has quite a high termite population, due to a warm to hot and humid environment.

We highly recommend that homeowners south of the Tropic of Capricorn (QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, WA) have an annual inspection. And those homeowners located north of the Tropic of Capricorn (QLD, NT, WA) are at an even greater risk of termite attacks, so we highly recommend getting a termite inspection every six months.

When you notice signs of a termite infestation, you should immediately book a termite inspection by one of our qualified pest controllers at Precision Pest Control. Signs of termites include:

  • flying termites
  • termite wings
  • hollow-sounding timber
  • mud tubes
  • shelter tubes
  • small holes in the wood
  • tunnels in wood
  • damaged wood/trees outside
  • termite droppings
  • foundations are damaged
  • floors, walls or ceilings are damaged.
